Filling up the Heart

Recently, I had an unintended vehicle upgrade!  We have affectionately named her “Miss Fancy!”  I am still learning about her.  But, just recently she surprised me and provoked me to ponder… I looked down to read “empty in 30 miles!”   My first thought was, would it not be nice if we could all have that?  A heart meter that would say – “full,” or “30 minutes to empty!”

What a difference that would make in our moments and our days with each other.   Would we not have more intentional grace?  It seems we would be less quick to judge, because we would know in advance a possible expected outcome.  We would understand that a peculiar expression or a short response was certainly because someone was almost empty!  We may even choose better timing and hold an encounter in our hand until someone’s heart meter said “full!”

It also caused me to dwell a bit on . . . what makes one’s heart full?  What makes yours brimming over?  Is it the deposits of smiles and laughter?  The quiet walk after days end or the glorious sky after a storm?  Is it the people who you love or the hands that you hold?  Is it your faith within or the day of new mercies that you embrace?  What is it that feeds your spirit . . . what makes you full?

It is such a difficult thing to pour out continually and not feel depleted.  For most of us . . . we pour out all day long.  Some are in a place of caring for others and they find themselves long past empty and far into their reserve.  Grief has emptied many of our glasses and sadness has stolen a few sacred sips. Seasons have come and stayed that have seemingly brought a drought into our spirits.  But alas, a new season is upon us.  Can we not perceive it?

Here is my hope for your heart today . . . that you will be full!  That you will be connected to the source of “living water” – that though you will have days that will drain you – you will have a love that will fill you – to “fullness!”  I hope you are “drenched” today with love from others.  So much laughter that your soul cannot contain it and that you would have a few outrageous outbursts of joy.  I hope you find yourself so full that you splash on those who are running a bit “empty” or whose heart feels a bit parched.  May you simply be “full” today . . . may your cup runneth over!

In Search of the Heart?

Hello, Dear Friend!

If any of you have traveled up the mountain and came to Bless Your Heart, you may find something strangely missing... we are~ The Heart!!!

Bless Your Heart is no longer where you knew it to be.  In fact, it's walls have been taken down and it's foundation removed.  In it's place is... a "well-water garden."

It is a curious thing to return to find something and it is no longer there.  It is also an incredibly difficult thing to watch something you have worked so hard to "build up" be taken down so quickly.

But, the amazing things about "the heart" is this:  it is strong and it has the capacity to flourish... even when it's walls come tumbling down.  Even when it's foundation is removed.

"The Heart" is always capable of great things in the presence of challenges and in the face of disappointment.

Perhaps you have had a season where your walls have been shaken and your foundation removed.  Perhaps your heart is feeling misplaced!  Vacant?

This is what I am learning from the ruins...

• The true foundations that cannot be shaken or removed dwells within you.  (For me, that is my personal faith.)
• There is a small space between what we see and what we know that sometimes feels like the deepest darkest cavern but can be crossed over by a little thing called HOPE and a gracious companion named FAITH.
• There is a great purpose in pruning madly... in due season, one flourishes.
• Though unwelcome or unexpected, the fierce wind of change can often twirl you around and set you down in a place of greater fullness for your soul.  Just remember to "take heart, take courage!" during the process.

Miss Betty stood by as the demolition of our beloved old shop took place last week. 

Although it is hard to say goodbye to that sweet building, we are happy for all the new adventures that lie ahead.  Our journey is taking us on paths with unexpected turns and up steep hills, but we are still going strong.  We carry on.  We are re-building.

We will keep you posted when the Water Shed opens and Miss Betty makes her grand appearance once more!

Shift: (verb) move or cause to move from one place to another; a change in direction

There are sacred seasons to the heart. Those moments when you must boldly align yourself to the hearts nudging, though doing so causes an uncomfortable shift in all that you have known. None the less. It is necessary to grow.

There is a shift in The Heart.  Not in who it is, or what is within it. Nor what it believes in. Simply, where you will find it.

The Heart is within. And for Bless Your Heart . . . it will be within your home. Bless Your Heart will soon have an on-line store presence. You will have access to “The Heart” whenever you wish . . .

You will also find Bless Your Heart in the small, adorable cottage at our main location. “The Water Shed,” which we affectionately named it, will be filled with flowers and gifts to go. We will be open and brimming over come Spring.

Our main store location where we have been for five treasured years will be gone. Literally, removed. It begs the question, what do you do when your foundation is gone and your walls come tumbling down? The answer for this Heart is to grieve it out (completely) – and then become replanted. There has been a “shift” in our lives. I believe that shifts happen quietly, every day in our ordinary lives. Little dances we do with most encounters. And then there are the more directive and intentional shifts that, though difficult, are purposeful. The place that Bless Your Heart has called home for five years is being removed. This sacred ground has personally watched me be broken and it has watched me be healed. It has taught all of us at The Heart how to love more deeply, how to create more fully. And it is all because of you. You changed us there. By loving us, believing us, and letting us into your moments, you allowed us to know you and that gracious act allowed us to . . . become. So, though different, The Heart will always remain close. We will keep you posted on this “shift” and “re-alignment” as we move along.

Until then . . . TAKE HEART!!!! Our sweet purple boutique on Main Street in Blowing Rock is where you can still see us face to face! We long to see you there.
